Sunday School Notes:
Craft Session Today: All children are invited downstairs at 10:00 a.m. this morning to make something together. They will be dismissed to their classes from there.
High Elevations: Next Sunday, February 26th, the Sunday School (and anyone else who would like to go) will meet at 2:00 p.m. at High Elevations trampoline park in Sewell for the open jump. Purchase tickets in advance at http://highelevationstrampolinepark.com. Cost will be between $12 – 20 per person, depending on how long you stay. If you need more information, see Gillian Bruno.
Hall Rededication Program: We will hold a special Family Night program tonight, and you are invited! The covered dish dinner will begin at 5:00 p.m. in the Hall. Just bring something to share with others. The rededication of the Fellowship Hall will begin at 6:00. Rev. Glenn Conaway, who will be our District Superintendent starting on July 1st, will join us for this special service. Music will be provided by the Choir, the Chime Choir and the Praise Band. Come celebrate with us!
Choir Notes: The choir has begun working on the Easter cantata, to be presented on Palm Sunday, April 9th. If you are interested in singing with the choir, you are welcome to come to rehearsals on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m.
Knit & Crochet Ministry will meet in the Youth Room at the Fellowship Hall on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. Anyone interested is welcome to join them.
30-Hour Famine: MYF members will again be participating in World Vision’s 30-Hour Famine, to be held on February 24th – 25th. The MYF kids are asking for sponsors for the Famine, and are also raising money by collecting your change. We are extending our deadline for one more week, so be sure to return your M&M Minis tube with your change by NEXT SUNDAY, February 26th. If you want to sponsor one of our teenagers, please do so by the end of the month. You can see them in person or donate online. Go to the church’s web site home page and you’ll find a link. All money donated will go to World Vision through the famine.
Any interested adults are welcome to fast with us. Our fast starts after lunch on Friday and ends with dinner together on Saturday. Be sure to drink lots of water!
MYF kids should meet Friday at 6:00 p.m. in the Hall. Bring a sleeping bag, pillow, clothes, toiletries, $10 for bowling and any money you have raised for World Vision. Friday night’s schedule includes games and bowling. On Saturday, we go to ShopRite, then work at Peter’s Pantry. Following that is our Scavenger Hunt and a movie.
Dinner will be 6:00 p.m. on Saturday in the Hall. Anyone interested is welcome to join us then! (Bring food!)
Confirmation: If your child is in 7th grade or has never been confirmed, please see the pastor for details. Confirmation classes will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesdays during Lent, starting on March 1st. Confirmation will be on Easter Sunday, April 16th.
ShopRite Gift Cards: These work just like cash, and we earn 5% on every dollar. They are available from Karen Luttenberger, Jennifer Guht, Karen Borrelli, Bunnie Powell or Suzanne Aumack. Please guard them as cash; they cannot be replaced if lost.
Lent is the 40-day season of preparation leading up to Easter. This year it begins on Wednesday, March 1st. Devotional booklets for each family are available in the Narthex. Please take one to use during this season.
Think and pray about what God would have you “give up” or “take on” during Lent. Some people give up bad habits (smoking, swearing) or luxuries (chocolate, coffee) as a form of penance. Some people take on a spiritual discipline (reading a daily devotional, spending more time in prayer, or giving to the needy) as a way to draw closer to God. Lent can be seen as a spiritual spring cleaning: a time for taking spiritual inventory and cleaning out those things which hinder our relationship with God and our service to Him.
It is fitting that the season of Lent begins with a symbol of repentance: placing ashes on one’s forehead. We will hold a brief Ash Wednesday service on March 1st from 6:30 – 7:00 p.m.
Pot Pie Dinner! Announcing our next Chicken Pot Pie Dinner will be held on Saturday, April 1st! We will serve the all-you-can-eat meal from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Hall. Homemade chicken pot pie (both old-fashioned with noodles and crusted) will be the main course. We have a great team of cooks and workers, but lots of help will be needed!
Vacation Cruise: It’s not too late to sign up for a 5-night cruise to Canada and New England on Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas, sailing from Bayonne, NJ, from June 26 – July 1, 2017. Prices start at under $1,000 per person, and the church will receive a donation based upon the number of bookings. Call 800-465-3595 and select Option 4. Our group name is Richwood Methodist and the group number is 8263995. They will guide you through the reservation process. A $200 deposit is required to hold your room. Our guaranteed deadline passed, so cabin locations and prices are subject to availability. Final payments are due March 28th.
A meeting for those going on the cruise has been scheduled for Saturday, March 4th, at 10:00 a.m. in the Conference Room.
Coffee Hour: As attendance at church has increased, we find we can use additional treats each week for Coffee Hour. A sign-up sheet has been posted in the Coffee Room for anyone willing to provide food each Sunday. See Dot Reuter if you have questions.
