Purple Heart is coming this Tuesday around 9:00 a.m. to collect all of our clothing from the basement of the church. Anyone who can come help load the truck is encouraged to meet at the church around 8:30 that morning to get it all outside. Please do not bring any more clothing to church.
Church Council Meeting this Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room. There is a lot to do to get ready for our Church Conference in November. Council members are: Ken and Suzanne Aumack, Don Brecht, Carol Brozosky, Gillian Bruno, Robin DeGirolamo, Gregg Ferguson, Betsy Fox, Heather Freeman, Michele Giaquinto, Mildred Herman, Ed Human, Donna Kavlunas, Dave Luttenberger, Eleanor Madara, Bunnie Powell, Matt Sandy, Rosemary Stewart, Doug and Wendy Webb, and Geoff Young.
Please plan to attend Church Conference on Saturday, November 18th, at Pitman UMC. Our session runs from 9:45 – 12:45.
Kids Alley Lunches: We will be making lunches for Kids Alley’s Saturday program this Friday, October 20th. If you can provide food (lunchmeat, bread, snacks, etc.), please sign up in the Narthex. All items need to be brought to the Hall kitchen by Friday. The kitchen door will be open by 4:00 p.m. If you need to make other drop-off arrangements, please call the church office.
Men’s Breakfast: All men are welcome to join this group, which will meet for breakfast at the Harrison House in Mullica Hill on Saturday, October 21st, at 8:00 a.m.
Membership Sunday: New members will be received at the 8:30 service next week. Please plan to greet them during the Coffee Hour following that service.
Family Night: Everyone is invited to join us next Sunday for our first Family Night of the season. Dinner starts at 5:00 p.m. and the program follows at 6:00. The meals will be covered dish (just bring something to share). Brian Richards will entertain and amaze us with a family-friendly comedy magic show. It will feature magic, juggling, puppets, and lots of audience participation. We hope to have a full house for this program! An offering will be received to help cover costs.
Hurricane Relief: There are lots of ways to help those who have been devastated from recent hurricanes:
~~ The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is receiving donations for disaster relief. If you would like to contribute, please make your check out to RUMC, but clearly mark it for UMCOR Hurricane Relief.
~~ You can also donate directly online at www.umcor.org or another reputable charity (World Vision, Samaritan’s Purse, and the Red Cross are also on the ground).
~~ We are filling flood buckets that will be sent to disaster locations. At the front of the sanctuary, we have an updated list of items needed to fill the buckets we have. Please sign up TODAY and bring all things in NEXT SUNDAY so we can ship these where needed.
Blood Drive: The Red Cross will sponsor a blood drive on Thursday, October 26th, from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. in our Fellowship Hall. If you are interested in helping recruit donors, please contact Karen Luttenberger at 464-9593. If you are donating blood, the Red Cross prefers that you make an appointment. Call 1-800-REDCROSS or see www.redcrossblood.org.
Loads of Thanks:
~~ to the MYF for their Day of Service last week. The group had to cancel outdoor jobs because of the rain, but they completed one indoor cleaning job, and baked and delivered 17 plates of cookies to church members and friends.
~~ to our Worship Committee for the new banners on display (and others waiting for the right seasons).
~~ to Laura Cunard, Dot Reuter and EVERYONE who helped with yesterday’s Pot Pie Dinner. We appreciate all who worked during the week to get everything ready, those who cooked, baked, served and cleaned up, and those who came to eat!
Cookie Sale Committee Forming: Anyone interested in helping with our Cookie Sale and Christmas Shop (to be held on December 9th) is welcome to attend a planning meeting on Sunday, November 5th, at 11:15 a.m. See Linda Fischer if you have questions.
Operation Christmas Child: You are invited to take a shoebox or two and fill it with gifts. Samaritan’s Purse will deliver them to children in need around the world. Directions for filling them are included in each box. Each box also needs $9 for shipping. You can include that in your box or pay online through “Follow Your Box.” We will have lots of boxes that need their shipping paid; if you can make a donation to cover that cost, please clearly mark your gift and put it in the offering plate. If you can’t fill a box, bring in items and put them by the organ; we will pack them for you! A packing party will be held at the church on Friday, November 10th, at 9:00 a.m. All items and boxes need to be returned to church by November 5th.
ShopRite cards work just like cash, and we earn 5% on every dollar. Buy them here and help raise funds for the church! Since we started this program years ago, we have sold over $830,000 in cards. Join us in our March to a Million! Cards are available from Karen Luttenberger, Jennifer Guht, Karen Borrelli, Bunnie Powell or Suzanne Aumack. Please guard them as cash; they cannot be replaced if lost.
